Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a mysterious thing. A combination of Google’s algorithmic secrecy and the hoodoo practices of SEO specialists make it something that most small business owners try to avoid thinking too much about.

Instead, think about how people search and the kinds of questions they’re asking when they start looking for real estate information online. Can you imagine someone looking for a home just Googling “real estate”? No, they’d look for a specific neighborhood or type of property, maybe a street or city.
They probably wouldn’t look for “real estate agent” either, but, instead, they’d look for “LGBTQ+-friendly real estate agent” or “military relocation real estate agent.” They might also look for “real estate agent near me” or “real estate agent [ZIP Code].”
That means that optimizing for these long-tail keywords — a term for longer, more descriptive keywords — can be a powerful differentiator when you’re planning your online content. Consider using these as page headers, subheads, blog post titles or other elements. Include these types of phrases in your meta-descriptions as well for additional juice.
